György Vashegyi
György Vashegyi, conductor, founder and artistic director of the Purcell Choir and the Orfeo Orchestra, teacher at the Liszt Academy of Music. During his studies at the conducting faculty of the Liszt Academy of Music, he attended master classes with Helmuth Rilling and John Eliot Gardiner, and after graduating from the Liszt Academy of Music, he pursued postgraduate studies at the Dresden Academy of Early Music under the guidance of John Toll. He has recorded nearly 40 recordings with his ensembles and his research work has led to numerous world premieres and premieres of modern music in Hungary. He has been President of the Hungarian Academy of Arts since 2017, and was re-elected by the Academy's General Assembly in 2020, a post he will hold until November 2023.
